Missing Measure Map

August 31st, 2006

While I think I’m down as far as can be on the “Long Tail”, I’ve become accustomed to my Measure Map feeds.

First it was the 27th when they’d be back up, then it was the 30th. By my calendar, the 30th has come and gone without much of an update from Measure Map.

Time to change the message about being back on the 30th.

Innovation is a difference that makes a difference.

August 30th, 2006

Caterina’s notes from Foo Camp – the Myths of Innovation.

Kevin Kelly brought up Gregory Bateson’s definition of innovation: Innovation is a difference that makes a difference. Someone added that innovation triggers and enables other things.

And this line seems to hit a chord, as well.

Someone said that the hardest thing about innnovation is people, and we all agreed. People are resistant to change, indeed fear change.

I really like the line “Innovation is a difference that makes a difference.” You don’t need a home run every time for innovation to take place. Singles and doubles also represent innovation.

Measure Map now the 30th.

August 28th, 2006

Here’s to hoping there’s something big happening. It’s been pretty quiet since Google took over. Maybe Measure Map will go to beta?

ReleaseGuide.com and customer service

August 24th, 2006

In my morning scan of feeds, I came across mention of ReleaseGuide.com . Nice listing. Even better, they’ve got RSS feeds. I quickly went and subscribed to a few only to discover they were all titled “Release Guide”. Not too helpful if you’ve subscribed to 3 or 4 of them. Which is which?

I jumped down to the contact us link and dropped them an email with the titling suggestion. About 10 minutes later I got the email saying they were looking into it. I love when that happens. People listen and respond.

Feeds are here – http://www.releaseguide.com/rss.php

My hometown paper adds RSS feeds

August 23rd, 2006

I’m glad to see my hometown (Globe Gazette) newspaper has added RSS feeds. Nice to see that RSS has hit middle America. Oh, and they have a podcast, too.

Weekend in Iowa

August 22nd, 2006

I spent last weekend in my old hometown of Mason City, Iowa for a class reunion. While some things have changed (urban sprawl is here, too), some things haven’t. Like endless fields, cows grazing next to my old elementary school, and the old house behind Pastime Gardens is gone.

More than 3000 cans of Spam to make up the Great Wall.

Comfort Inn – not really….

August 19th, 2006

At the Comfort Inn and happy to have wifi in the room, but there’s a few things that seem to be blocked.

1. NNW is erroring out on my feeds. Sure I could go to Bloglines, but importing my OPML from NNW screwed it all up, and I don’t want to take the time to organize it. More than 600 feeds is a mess.
2. FlickrExport authorizing. My trial is over, I bought the license, but I can’t authenticate to Flickr.
[update] There’s an update to FlickrExport that fixed this problem. 2.0.1

And the room.

1. There’s one freakin’ open plug, not by the desk. There is an outlet behind the desk, but one plug is dead, and the other is running the fridge in the room. I could unplug the fridge, but then the beer would get warm. Oh, and there’s a plug in the bathroom. I’ve got too many devices that need charging to be stick with a plug in the room and one in the bathroom.
2. Hot water in the shower. Where is it. It’s tepid….
3. Coffee maker in the room. Nice, since I brought my own grounds. But could you leave more than one packet of sugar?

Roadtrip to the Spam Museum

August 17th, 2006

Back in the Midwest as I checked in to my hotel, I look a scan of the attractions display and the one that jumped out was the Spam Museum in Austin, Minnesota.

I think a road trip is on for tomorrow or Saturday.
