Podcast subscription disruption

May 5th, 2007

It’s been quite a while since I’ve completely disrupted my podcast subscriptions and consuming habits.

My routine is very much set it and forget it. For the last couple months my routine had been pretty well set with what I was watching and listening to. That’s all changed.

Dug around Amigofish, explored iTunes, see what rooty reccomends. I’ve probably dropped 20 or 30 podcasts that hadn’t been touched in weeks, but added back another 20 or 30.

It all started with adding in the Croncast.

Guess it’s time to resync the iPod and tweak my smart playlists…..

Podshow vs. Splashcast on “the hijacking”

May 4th, 2007

Over the course of the week there’s been a fair amount of buzz around the hijacking of RSS feeds and content by Splashcast. While it may not be as vocal as was the missteps by Podshow, it seems that folks think that Splashcast is getting off easier than Podshow did.

To set my record straight, I had problems with both missteps. I’ve talked with reps from both companies in these instances regarding my employer’s content. Both have been understanding and in Podshow’s case, they made alterations that were acceptable. Props to them for that.

In regards to Splashcast, they too are making alterations towards accomodating the outrage in the community. Props to them, as well. They’re learning a very important lesson.

I think one of the key differences in the amount of flack between the two is that with Podshow, Adam was pretty public about their plans with Podshow for quite a while before it became a reality. With that, Podshow was already on people’s minds and we were watching (or listening) closely to see where they were going. We saw the missteps, and jumped all over them (and the radio star).

For Splashcast, did they have any buzz generated in the community before the changes this week? None that I’m aware of, but my podcast consumption may not have had me following the right content. This seems to have quietly crept up on the podcast community.
