Like Snatch – how about the Hustle?

February 21st, 2006

I seem to have gotten some sort of bug that has me watching more UK based (inspired?) tv.

First it was Mile High on BBC America. I’ve got the DVR set to keep the latest episode around.

Being a sucker for criminal type content, I’ve watched Layer Cake a number of times, re-watched Snatch over the weekend. Somewhere I saw a commercial for Hustle on AMC. It was enough to get a bit of interest, record a couple episodes and see what it’s all about.

I’m only one episode in, but the DVR is set to record the latest episode in the off hours. Earlier this week was a Hustle marathon, so there’s about 5 more episodes to catch up with.

I have to say that I’m happy to see better content coming from some of the cable channels – FX, Bravo, IFC, Sundance, and now AMC.

The best part of the cable channels delivering decent programming is that they tend to replay the shows multiple times which makes it a breeze to record outside the prime time hours.

Hustle is 1 of the few TV episodes worth SWITCHING the box on for & Guy Richie seems on a role at the moment – check ‘Ordinary Decent Criminals’ ‘Sexy Beast’ ‘Gangster No 1′

FINALY the UK has started making ‘worthwhile’ mass visual media (oh its called films & tv programmes? :) )

Also most Channel 4 supported films (99%) are a safe bet (some of the above are) – a kind of UK HBO (?) – damn i wish they would re run ‘The Corner’ again over here…

I can’t even find it illegally let alone buy it! but then i’ve not looked that hard.

    peace

the films i listed are just a few – btw, if you like the UK ‘gangster’ style batch of films i’ll list the others and some more UK films worthy of an hour + Theres been a few (i hate football) very good football violence related films aswell – 1 i liked had the guy who was Frodo in LOTR – i’ve heard it called 2 names – Football Factory & Green Strret (i think Green St) but Footy Factory – very entertaining, i almost wanted to watch football for about 10 minutes after watching it :)

As said i’ll put a quick UK indie film list together if you truely wish, and key code (1 – GGangster, 2 – Horror, 3 – Psychological Human Interaction Observation Drama ;) etc) in an email – wont take 5 mins so ‘yes’ away.

    L8rs..
